How many of you love Sports anime? You know I am really in love with them, especially the Football game-based anime. In this post, we are going to share with you the top sports anime like Ao Ashi.
This anime tells us the story of Ashito Aoi, a young boy who is studying at Ehime City Middle School. His encounter with Tatsuya Fukuda a football coach. The coach sees great potential in him to become a football player.
The anime starts in a rural town's junior high school where Ashito is popular for his football skill. He is the only star player on his Junior high school football team.
During the gameplay of the school preliminary tournament, an opponent takes the advantage of Ashito's short-tempered attitude.
Ashito loses his control and acts violently, his actions resulting in the cause of the team's failure. He got disqualified for the rest of the football matches. After the elimination of their one and only star player, the team becomes weak and sooner loses the tournament.
Later on, Tatsuya Fukuda (a youth team coach) approaches Ashito. Tatsuya calls him for tryouts in Tokyo City. Tatsuya sees great potential in Ashito.

Captain Tsubasa is an anime that describes soccer very well. Like Ao Ashi, this anime is purely focusing on Soccer tactics and strategies. Both protagonists love to play sports. Most importantly, both anime shows contain a high school football team.
This anime tells us the story of Tsubasa Oozora who loves to play football. In "Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002" Tsubasa aims for the world cup that is going to be held in Japan and Korea. Like Ao Ashi, this anime gives you whatever you are looking for in a sports anime.
6. Slam Dunk
Like Ao Ashi, Slam Dunk mainly focuses on the tactics and the strategy of sports rather than a superpower. Both anime has unique and amazing characters. Slam Dunk contains action, romance, comedy, and other elements that make this anime worth watching.
Slam Dunk follows the story of a teenage boy whose name is Hanamichi Sakuragi. After being continuously rejected by 50 girls, one day a girl named Haruko Akagi approaches him and asked him if he likes basketball. Hanamichi makes up his mind that he will enter the Shohoku High School Basketball Team and do whatever in order to attract that girl.
Hanamichi Sakuragi reminds me of the Great Teacher Onizuka protagonist Onizuka. Their natures are very similar to each other.
5. Days
Ao Ashi and Days both are football-based anime, but the protagonists are very different from each other. Ashito is a skilled and very talented football player, on the other hand, Tsukushi is not an extremely talented player but works hard in order to improve his game.
Days anime follows the story of Tsukushi Tsukamoto who is a very shy boy who begins to start high school. He makes his decision will join Seiseki High School because he wants to be with Sayuri Tachibana a childhood friend of Tsukamoto.
One day Jin Kazama save him from bullies and asks him to join a futsal match because they were shot with one player. As he was bad at playing football still he did his 100% in that match even after getting injured.
His team members get motivated after seeing his dedication of Tsukamoto to the game. His great hard work and continuous practice led him to join the Seiseki High Football Club with Kazama.

4. Giant Killing
Both anime are based on the football game. Takumi and Fukuda both of them are both really good coaches and very similar to each other. Tell about the story of the professional football club.
ETU's (East Tokyo United) poor performance in the Japanese Professional League for the past few years forced fans to abandon the team. ETU lost five matches in a row which led the team morale down.
East Tokyo United (ETU) recruit Takeshi Tatsumi as a manager so that they can break the curse of poor performance. At a young age, Tatsumi leaves ETU but he proved himself after becoming the manager of England's lower-division amateur teams.
Tatsumi's work is not going to be easy because even the fans of ETU call him a traitor because he left the team years ago. Apart from that ETU is also lacking a sufficient budget and skilled players.

3. Hajime no Ippo (Fighting Spirit)
This anime follows the story of Ippo Makunouchi who is a high school student. Due to his shy nature, he is unable to make friends. Ippo extremely works hard in order to help his mother in running the family fishing business.
In his school, he is also bullied by some students on daily basis. One day when he was beaten by those bullies, a professional boxer (Mamoru Takamura) saw him and take to his gym so that his wound can be cured.
Once Ippo wakes up, Mamoru Takamura asks him to punch the sandbag in order to get rid of his frustrations. As soon he starts punching, Mamoru and other fellow boxer are fully shocked by his powerful punches. He starts training with Mamoru.

2. Ace of Diamond
Both anime are mostly focused on sports, especially the main characters are having more affection for sports. They have to leave their hometown and come to Tokyo to play at a higher level. Both the MCs are very similar to each other.
This anime follows the story of Eijun Sawamura, who has an extraordinary pitching style. In middle school, Sawamura's team lost his final match. After that defeat, Sawamura and other team members take a vow that in high school they will definitely reach the national tournament.
The situation completely changes when he gets an invitation to join Seidou High School because of his incredible pitching style. His teammates encourage him to accept their invitation.
He accepts the invitation and is ready to upgrade his skill and competition. Now his target is to become the ace of Seidou High School.
1. Haikyu!!
The most similar thing is that both anime are made by Production I.G. Main protagonist Hinata's behavior and nature are very similar to Ashito. They both are very hardworking and talented.
A middle school student Hinata Shouyou suddenly fell in love with volleyball after watching the national championship match. He makes up his mind that one day he become a star player in this game.
His dream led him to join the school's volleyball club. Unfortunately, they don't have enough players to practice volleyball. In the final year of Junior High, some of Hinata's friends also joined the volleyball so that the Volleyball club can be eligible to participate in the tournament.
In the first game, their team has brutally defeated by Tobio Kageyama’s team. Tobio himself know as the “The King of the Court” because of his excellent play style and highly skilled movers. After that defeat, Hinata takes a vow that he will defeat Tobio Kageyama in high school.
