This anime tells us the story of Ashito Aoi, a young boy who is studying at Ehime City Middle School. His encounter with Tatsuya Fukuda a football coach. The coach sees great potential in him to become a football player.

The anime starts in a rural town's junior high school where Ashito is popular for his football skill. He is the only star player on his Junior high school football team.

During the gameplay of the school preliminary tournament, an opponent takes the advantage of Ashito's short-tempered attitude.

Ashito loses his control and acts violently, his actions resulting in the cause of the team's failure. He got disqualified for the rest of the football matches. After the elimination of their one and only star player, the team becomes weak and sooner loses the tournament.

Later on, Tatsuya Fukuda (a youth team coach) approaches Ashito. Tatsuya calls him for tryouts in Tokyo City. Tatsuya sees great potential in Ashito.

Slam Dunk follows the story of a teenage boy whose name is Hanamichi Sakuragi. After being continuously rejected by 50 girls, one day a girl named Haruko Akagi approaches him and asked him if he likes basketball. Hanamichi makes up his mind that he will enter the Shohoku High School Basketball Team and do whatever in order to attract that girl.

Ao Ashi and Days both are football-based anime, but the protagonists are very different from each other. Ashito is a skilled and very talented football player, on the other hand, Tsukushi is not an extremely talented player but works hard in order to improve his game.

Days anime follows the story of Tsukushi Tsukamoto who is a very shy boy who begins to start high school. He makes his decision will join Seiseki High School because he wants to be with Sayuri Tachibana a childhood friend of Tsukamoto.

One day Jin Kazama save him from bullies and asks him to join a futsal match because they were shot with one player. As he was bad at playing football still he did his 100% in that match even after getting injured.

His team members get motivated after seeing his dedication of Tsukamoto to the game. His great hard work and continuous practice led him to join the Seiseki High Football Club with Kazama.

A middle school student Hinata Shouyou suddenly fell in love with volleyball after watching the national championship match. He makes up his mind that one day he become a star player in this game.

His dream led him to join the school's volleyball club. Unfortunately, they don't have enough players to practice volleyball. In the final year of Junior High, some of Hinata's friends also joined the volleyball so that the Volleyball club can be eligible to participate in the tournament.

In the first game, their team has brutally defeated by Tobio Kageyama’s team. Tobio himself know as the “The King of the Court” because of his excellent play style and highly skilled movers. After that defeat, Hinata takes a vow that he will defeat Tobio Kageyama in high school.
